I am a PhD candidate in American politics and international relations, specializing in American civil-military relations. My research focuses on the effects of extreme partisan polarization on military politicization and the production of military capability. I am also interested in veterans running for office and the role of veterans, particularly senior officers, in senior civilian positions.
After graduating from the College of William & Mary with a degree in history, I served 26 years on active duty as a U.S. Army field artillery officer, with duty in the United States, the Federal Republic of Germany, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Other assignments included assistant professor of English at the United States Military Academy at West Point and as an Army liaison officer to the United States Senate.
